1 more sleep until MBFWA!

It’s 1 more sleep until MBWFA and the hype is growing around the office! I had a chat to our Womenswear Assistant Buyer Amanda about what Fashion Week means for her…

Expectations? After living in London for the past few years – when fashion week came around there was definitely a ‘buzz’ in the air. Everyone dressed to impress, so people watching was really fun! I’m hoping Sydney will be somewhat the same – even if you’re not participating in fashion week. I feel like it’s the one week you can get away with wearing your most outlandish pieces!

Is it all fun & glamour? Being my first Fashion week I am definitely looking forward to the sparkle and glamour the event is known for but I am still mindful that I am there to work. In saying that, networking and meeting with the right people is a very important part of my job, so meeting the designers and sales reps of the brands after the show is essential as these are the people at the heart of the brand, they know what works for their customers and therefore our customers so it’s really a joint effort in deciding the styles that eventually go online.

Have you pre-planned your outfits? Yes!! I haven’t gone out and bought anything especially for the week but I am lucky enough to be dressed by White Suede, Kirrily Johnston and Shona Joy for the shows which is an amazing privilege and very exciting! My personal style is very vintage inspired so I’ll be mixing up some of the core designer pieces with some of my grandmothers beautiful printed skirts and be accessorizing them with my Louis Vuitton accessories. (I used to work for them in England) I’m looking forward to working the lady-like 50′s trend – high necks, cute collars and pretty pastels!

Will you be attending any after parties? The big one is going to be the Whitney Eve party – the show is the opening night and the after party is rumored to be on a yacht!

Tell me about the process after Fashion Week? We already have most of our appointments booked in to see the sales reps in the week following fashion week – this involves meeting with the designer/s or sales reps, go through the collection and get some feedback regarding the pieces that have received the most attention from the media and other stores and based on this information and our own experience in the industry we place our order according to our OTB!

What shows are you looking forward to? Whitney Eve is a big one for us at THE ICONIC as she’s our cover model on THE ICONIC magazine which has launched this month and I have big expectations that the collection will be a hit with Australian girls. I’m also looking forward to Ginger and Smart and Kirrily Johnston.

Stay tuned over Fashion Week for all of the goss!
